Install from the Chrome Web Store

1. 1Open the Chrome Web Store listing.
2. 2Click Add to Chrome, then confirm Add extension in the prompt Chrome shows.
3. 3Open a new tab. That's it, no setup screen, no account, no sign-in required.

Your next new tab shows a Makoto Shinkai wallpaper with the clock and search bar already in place. Open the settings gear in the corner any time to choose films, adjust brightness and blur, or toggle widgets.

What each permission does

Chrome shows a permissions prompt before install. Here is exactly what each one is used for, matching the extension's manifest:

• Storage: saves your settings (films shown, brightness, widget layout) and shortcuts on your device. Nothing leaves your browser.
• Unlimited storage (unlimitedStorage): lets the extension cache wallpapers you've viewed without being capped by the browser's default storage quota.
• Read your browsing history's top sites (topSites): fills empty shortcut tiles with sites you already visit often. Read on your device only, never transmitted.
• Search: sends what you type in the search bar to your own default search engine, the same as Chrome's address bar. The query never passes through the developer.
• Identity / email (identity, identity.email): powers the optional Google sign-in used to show your name and picture in the greeting.
• Bookmarks (optional): only requested if you use the "Import from bookmarks" feature in Settings, to read your bookmark folders. No bookmark data is ever sent anywhere.
• Access to googleapis.com: needed only after you choose to sign in, to read your basic Google profile (email, name, picture).
• Google Calendar, read-only: needed only if you sign in, to show today's real events in the calendar widget. Your calendar is never modified.

Most wallpapers also stream in from the developer's own site (shinkai-skies.com) instead of bundling every one in the extension, so the tab can offer the full, growing collection without a large download — this doesn't need a browser permission, since it's just fetching public image files.

Removing it

1. 1Right-click the extension's icon in Chrome's toolbar and choose Remove from Chrome…. (If you don't see the icon, go to chrome://extensions instead.)
2. 2Confirm the removal. Chrome's default new tab returns immediately.
3. 3Everything the extension stored locally (settings, notes, shortcuts) is deleted with it.
